A Major Contributor to the Country's Economy

Transportation is a major industry of the economy. It is also the second biggest user of all the energy being consumed after electricity generation. The transportation industry provides a significant number of jobs from manufacturing to the services sector. Assembly line workers and drivers and conductors are just some of the workers who depend on it. Transportation services included delivery of passengers and cargo from ships to airlines to bus companies.

It is a significant contributor to the overall health of an economy and many cities and towns are often inordinately dependent on it. The transportation industry is under threat today from dwindling energy supplies to negative effects it has on the environment. Much of the global warming and climate change has been blamed on this sector and perhaps rightly so because most of the carbon emissions are from transport-related activities. There are moves towards alternative renewable energy solutions.
