For people who are often on the road with their motorhome, it is but imperative to keep it in tiptop shape to ensure it is always in good running condition. Always double check anything that may be using the vehicle's battery power even after turning the engine off. It can be a 12-volt clock or the liquid petroleum gas detector. You can purchase a battery disconnect switch and fit into your battery post to make sure everything is turned off.

In a time when petrol prices have gone sky-rocket, people need ways to add more piles per gallon to every vehicle they have, especially their camper van. So, before leaving for a trip, check that your tyres are properly inflated. This is because under-inflated tyres are more resistant in motion, which then reduces the vehicle's mileage as well as causes the tyres to wear faster. One should refer to the vehicle's manual to know the right tyre pressure. It is advisable to check tyre pressure weekly not only for mileage, but as well as for safety. When checking tyre pressure, it is important to compare it with the load tables on one's own manual. Since motorhome tyres are manufactured to withstand certain pressures, too much heat from too much speed can cause breaking of treads, belts and other structures.

One way to stretching your petrol mileage is to avoid filling your vehicle on a hot weather. It is more advisable to fill up first thing early in the morning as gas is denser when the weather is cool. So, if you are filling up in the middle of the day on a hot summer day, you are paying for more liquid with no go-power as well as have the tendency to contract when the weather cools down.

One other thing to keep in mind is to inspect one's motorhome for any crack or separation. Also, check your spare tyre to make sure you can use it at the time of need. At least a day before going on a trip, check the inside of your camper and make sure it does not smell of petrol as this can indicate a leak. If it does, turn off all pilot lights and contact a repairman.
